After consultation with Coach Danowski and his staff, we have decided that it will be in the best interest of the campers to postpone the 2010 Lacrosse Skills Camp scheduled for this weekend. The staff feels that the extreme cold weather would limit the productivity of the camp and cause potential harm to the campers.
We are attempting to set a new date within 60 days that complies with the NCAA Recruiting Calendar and accommodates the schedule of the Duke coaching staff.
Any camper who is unable or does not desire to participate in the camp at this later date when it is set will receive a full refund. If you want a refund immediately we will do so. Simply email us and let us know. If we are unable to set a new date by next Wednesday, we will mail full refunds to all campers. We will provide further updates via email and on the website at www.thespecialteams.com.
We deeply regret having to postpone, but it is in the best interest of the campers.
We regret any inconvenience this has caused.
Campers will be instructed in technical drills, game situations, conditioning drills, and mental aspects of the game and life. On Saturday the players will rotate through skill stations.
Campers will also hear from a coaching panel on eligibility requirements, college life, and college lacrosse. All drills, instructions and play will be conducted by participating college coaches. On Sunday, campers will be divided onto squads based on their school year, and play in live action scrimmages.
Campers will need their own equipment. Yes, parents are welcomed to view.
Rich Mauti of “The Special Teams” is pleased to announce the 2010 “Skills” Lacrosse Camp, to be held on January 9-10, 2010, at the Pelican Park Silver Complex in Mandeville, LA. This first lacrosse camp is designed to give expert instruction to high school and club lacrosse players, 14 years and older, male and female, throughout the Gulf Region.
The camp’s Head Instructor is John Danowski, Head Coach of the Duke University Blue Devils. In 2007, his first year at the helm of the Blue Devil program, Danowski guided Duke to the finest season in school history. The Blue Devils went 17-3, captured both the ACC and regular season championships, earned the program's first number one seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the national title game. His 2008 team repeated as ACC champs and advanced to the NCAA semifinals, as did the 2009 team.
For his efforts, he was named the ACC Coach of the Year as well as the Person of the Year by US Lacrosse. The 2007 campaign yielded four first team All-America honorees while attack man Matt Danowski was the consensus national player of the year.
In addition, Danowski will bring his coaching staff of the Blue Devils to assist in the camp’s instructional programs.
Rich Mauti, familiar to many in the area as a former receiver for the New Orleans Saints, is committed to aiding in the development of lacrosse in the region. In addition to being an accomplished football player, Mauti was also an All-American in lacrosse while at Penn State. In furtherance of the objective of developing lacrosse, the camp will also include a coaches clinic, offering area coaches the opportunity to receive instruction from some of the most accomplished lacrosse coaches in the country.
